Sieff Gallery in association with Ramsay prints are excited to announce the upcoming group exhibition featuring a new body of work by award winning artist Sandra Shashou. The exhibition takes place from Wednesday 28 November to Tuesday 4 December at Ramsay prints, 69 Pimlico Road, London, SW1W 8NE
Sandra Shashou, who won the Lazlo foundation prize for portraiture and the Laurent Perrier graduation prize in 2005, will exhibit for the first time work from her series "Precious Time".
"Precious Time" is an abstract collection of personal references that explore "the self" and the connections between the mind, the past, the present and the future. Sandra covers canvases with intuitive and varied mark making. There is a great subjectivity in paint handling and composition thinking that it will mesmerise the viewer. The paintings are intensely conscious of the present moment disassociating from the mind and compulsive thinking. Sandra makes references to the past and illusions of the future, however, the viewer is unconsciously brought back to the moment with the substantial weight and body of the paint.
"I would like the viewer to become involved in the visible painting history of the multi layered work and its physiology, tracking back the richness of the oil paint, the creamy texture of the brush strokes, the chance element of the dripping, the unpredictable accident of paint contrasted by the decisiveness and presence of the palette knife."
Other featured sieff gallery artists include Pieter Vanden Daele and Jean-Marc Louis. Pieter Vanden Daele has spent the summer creating four wonderful new pieces to add to his collection of fish bronzes, Titus, Jakobus, Ignatius and Bona Ventura.
